Freddie Mac just put up a NEW and very informative website called "Avoiding Foreclosure Resource Center". It is updated with all of the latest information for homeowners who are having a challenge keeping up with their mortgage payments. There are also sections dealing with working with foreclosure attorneys, information on loan modifications, fraud protection, buying foreclosures, and much more great info!
The government is also putting upa new site that is currently in the works, called FinancialStability.com.
The Treasury Department also has an interesting website, Emergency Economic Stabilization Act.

Good Find on these sites. Foreclosures and short sales are an interesting and necessary evil in getting the housing market on stable ground. Granted no one likes to see people going through this type of turmoil but it has certainly had a corrective effect on prices. In our market prices have dropped about 60% and about 1/2 of our transactions are foreclosures and short sales. I guess the good news is that twice as many people can buy property at 1/2 price or less. Go figure.

I agree that it is so sad to see all of the turmoil this has caused for people. How interesting that prices in Florida are down 60%, so we are very fortunate it is not that bad for real estate in Northern Illinois.
There is an up side to everything and in this market it is for the home buyers.
