What a fun fern picture! I was so amazed when we moved here and I found those grew in the ground as I had always thought of them as house plants.
Debra, very cool picture I must say. We have lots of ferns here too, and they are some beautiful. Soon enough they will be selling fiddleheads in the produce departments of the grocery stores. I don't quite understand those, but then again, I have not tried one. The are a New England fern thing I think.
Thank you for the picture!
I love ferns!! Gorgeous shot...I really could use some greenery here in WI!!! With all the rain on the way today, things should green up a bit finally!
This is awesome..... !
It looks like we can see where the rabbit hole goes. Oh wait, this is a fern. Silly me.
Love it!! I remember as a kid searching for fiddle head ferns, then frying them up with salt and pepper. Those days are some of my fondest memories.
Ah, to go to the heart of the matter!
A very beautiful shot of the fern, Debra! Love the vibrant green color.
Debi
Hi Debra, What a nice shot! I love ferns, it is far to dry and cold to grow them here...and when I have tried them as a houseplant-- they just shrivel up and die from lack of humidity ! Nice to see this beautiful green this morning!
Debraaaaaa.......I fell down the fern hole! Actually it looked so inviting that I dived in, it's beautiful in here.....come see ;-)
Debra - what a beautiful picture and the new growth it has on it. I love plants! Thanks for sharing.
Reminds me of Alice in Wonderland!
your friend in Charlottesville Virginia!
Hi Marshal, they are beautiful and perennial here in Northern Illinois, too!
Debra,
I like pictures like this. Great composition and color. Just draws us right in. :)
Steve
Hi Andrea...thanks for stopping by:-) I am not familiar with fiddle head ferns at all....what are they?
Hi Kristan....we are almost neighbors and I definitely hear you on that! We need more green, too but I am sure all of this rain will help!
I am so glad you like, it, Kat...stop by my blog again soon:-)
Cute, Tony! It does kind of "invite you in" doesn't it? Thanks for stopping by:-)
Hi June...here we go with those fiddle head ferns again....what are they? Are they like asparagus?:-)
Hi Li and thanks for stopping by. Now, "heart of the matter" would have been a great name for this photo!
Debra, love the colors here in the fern. Love "heart fo the matter comment" have a great and successful week.
Debi, thanks a ton!
Hi Mary, I love ferns, too...they just feel tropical to me!
Hi Gail...it does draw you in, doesn't it? I hope you enjoyed the visit...do you need help getting out?
Sharon, so do I and thanks for stopping by!!
Charles, it does make you think of Alice in Wonderland, thanks!!!
Steve, I appreciate you stopping by and I am so glad you enjoyed my photograph:-)
Hi Lynn...thanks so much and I hope you have a very successful weekend, too!
Nice shot.
I read through the comments, too.
Marchel has to remember that all plants grew outside before we had houses. Over in the East Texas Piney Woods there are lots of ferns growing wild, as well as lots of other unusual plants.
For June - All ferns have fiddleheads. Some are just more pronounced than others. For example, here's a fiddelhead from an Australian tree fern:
For Mary - If your fern dries out, you either are not watering it enough or you have it in a drafty location. To keep them moist, you can do three things:
Our wonderful plant geneticists have come up with some drought tolerant varieties, and there actually are some ferns that grow in full sunlight.
WOW, Russel, I know you are a thorough person but wow...great information and thanks for answering all of the questions! I hope Mary saw your fern tips!
OK...so if all ferns have fiddleheads...are they all edible? I have never heard of them being served before...how do you prepare them?
Thanks for the excellent comment and info:-)
@ Russell -- I missed this great info, so thank you very much. I would love to try to have ferns inside again!
